VN, Cambodia join hands to fight drugs

(08-10-2008)

HCM CITY — Viet Nam and Cambodia will increase information exchange and strengthen mutual efforts to fight drug abuse, officials from both countries have agreed.

Representatives from Cambodia’s National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) met with their counterparts from the Ministry of Public Security’s Police General Department yesterday in HCM City.

The meeting focused on preventing drug abuse, implementation of laws, rehabilitation for drug addicts and ways to wipe out the cultivation of poppy plants.

Major-general Cao Minh Nhan, deputy head of the Police General Department, suggested that the two agencies frequently exchange information relating to the drug trade. Information about new drug samples, tricks of the illegal trade and equipment for fighting drug abuse should be also exchanged, Nhan said. — VNS
