March 10, 2009

PHNOM PENH (Xinhua) - Cambodia has appointed its Ambassador to Indonesia Kan Pharith as the kingdom's permanent representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN), said official news agency AKP today.

The credentials were received by Secretary General of ASEAN Surin Pitsuwan last week, added the Agence Kampuchea Presse.

Currently, only the permanent representatives of four ASEAN member countries, including Vietnam, Laos, Singapore and Cambodia, have presented their credentials to the ASEAN Secretariat.

Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand are expected to appoint their representatives soon.
ASEAN altogether has 10 member countries, still including Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia.
