BANGKOK - All three of the Cambodian taekwondo athletes failed to grab a medal Monday at the 2009 Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok. Choun Sarun, fighting in the men's finweight category (50-54 kilograms), Sorn Elit, fighting in the men's heavyweight category (over 84kg) and Chhoueng Puthearim, fighting in the women's flyweight category (47-51kg), lost in their bouts, while nations including Korea, Japan, Kazhakstan and host Thailand took home the medals. The inaugural Asian Martial Arts tournament commissioned by the Olympic Council of Asia and held August 1-9, has attracted some 40 countries and 1,500 athletes. Cambodian Olympic Committee official Sok Ang apologised on behalf of the taekwondo team for their poor performance. "I would [like] to say sorry to all supporters, sponsors, and all people in Cambodia," he said by email Monday.
