Cameroonian Nabbed with Counterfeit Currency

Phnom Penh Municipal Police cooperated with Kandal 1 Market Police on Monday to arrest one Cameroonian man for the possession of counterfeit currency, a police officer said.

At 23:15 in Kandal 1market commune of Daun Penh district, the man from Cameroon was arrested.

One Cambodian vendor said the African tried to exchange the counterfeit money.

Mbong Ebongo Henri, 28, the holder of Cameroonian passport no. 012252116, was staying in Paragon Hotel near the market. In his room four bottles of ink, a hundred pieces of currency paper, a counterfeiting set, a suitcase, and US$82,000 in fake dollars was recovered, police said.

Both local police and central authorities had had Mbong under observation for a long time, a police source said.

He will be sent to the court soon.
