Silver for Phal Sophat

Cambodian featherweight (57kg) boxer Phal Sophat saw his dreams of a gold medal shattered by way of a second-round knockout from Filipino Suarez Charly in their final Thursday at the Olympasia Gymnasium of the National University, Vientiane. Phal Sophat instead collected silver, the best result from the Kingdom’s boxing delegation who registered four bronzes earlier in the week.

MANUFACTURERS in Cambodia need to enhance the quality of export goods and improve packaging to meet international standards if they hope to compete in highly competitive markets overseas, Ministry of Commerce Undersecretary of State Tekreth Kamrang told an export-promotion seminar Thursday in Phnom Penh. Kurata Hironobu, president of Koh Kong organic pepper distributor Kurata Pepper, told attendees food exporters should work more closely with suppliers to ensure consistency to develop brand identity.

Isuzu imports D-MAX

VEHICLE distributor K-Cambodia Co said Wednesday that it has imported five Isuzu D-MAX 2010 pickups from Thailand to sell in the local market for the first time. K-Cambodia Vice President Chea Huy said the company planned to import an additional 20 pickups made by the Japanese car and truck manufacturer in 2010, anticipating that the model would be a “good seller” in the future. Since its world debut in Thailand in 2002, where the D-MAX is produced, more than 600,000 models have been exported to 86 countries, General Manager of Isuzu Operations (Thailand) Hisao Ito said.
