Two physicians and two nurses from Borland-Groover Clinic in Jacksonville are traveling to Cambodia to oversee the installation of a half-million dollars’ worth of new medical equipment and supplies for a local hospital.
Borland-Groover is sponsoring the trip and providing much of the supplies, along with donations from several other medical supply companies.
The donated items are for Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope, a 50-bed facility treating up to 350 patients a day, which is Cambodia’s only charity-funded hospital. It is also the only hospital that provides education and training of medical professionals while providing 24-hour, free medical care to the poor.
Borland-Groover is donating equipment for three complete operating rooms equipped with up-to-date Olympus 160 Series endoscopic equipment for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases.
Dr. Hong Taing Tek, who was born and raised in Cambodia, and Dr. Kyle Etzkorn, gastroenterologists with Borland-Groover Clinic, will oversee the implementation of the equipment. They will be joined by Tek’s wife, Suon, who will serve as translator, lead nurse Sandy Wilson and surgical technician Angie Hull.
