"Children of Genocide: Five Who Survived" is a new documentary featuring five stories of survivors from the Holocaust, Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Sudan. The film, made by Twin Cities Public Television and World Without Genocide, will have a public premiere at 7 tonight at Temple Israel, 2324 Emerson Ave. S., Minneapolis. No reservations are necessary.
The documentary focuses on five adults who were children at the time of their particular country's crisis. The survivors recount their childhood experiences with genocide and their adult perspectives on these atrocities. Four of the survivors in the film now live in Minnesota. They range from a 26-year-old Sudanese to a 76-year-old German, illustrating the half-century of genocides from Darfur to the Holocaust. The evening will include a conversation with the survivors.
Twin Cities Public Television will show the film on the Life and MN channels throughout the state. World Without Genocide will have copies available for use in classrooms and other educational settings. Go to worldwithoutgenocide.org for more information. — Pioneer Press
