A truck passes a toll booth on the new Prek Phnov Bridge on the outskirts of Phnom Penh yesterday. Officials today are due to start collecting tolls on the bridge, which was officially opened on September 20 and is designed to ease congestion on the Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge. Pedestrians, bicycles, motorbikes, tuk-tuks and motorbike-pulled trucks will not be charged to use the bridge, but fees for cars, tourist buses, taxis and heavy trucks will range from 5,700 riels (US$1.35) to 34,000 riels ($8.07). Trucks and vehicles with 25 or more seats have been banned from crossing the Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge, and must now pay to use the Prek Phnov Bridge.
