Fortune-teller learns of attack plan, gets in first
A 26-year-old fortune-teller has allegedly admitted to stabbing a man in Phnom Penh’s Toul Kork district on Tuesday, saying that he had decided to get in first after he was informed that the man planned to come to his house to attack him. The victim, who was sent to hospital with stab wounds to the head, told police he had harboured “no intention” of fighting the soothsayer.

Police nab man over taking axe to boozer
A 33-year-old man has been arrested on accusations of attacking a man with an axe in Battambang province’s Phnom Proek district. Police said the victim, who was drunk at the time, had cursed at the suspect and then started chopping into his house with an axe. The suspect then allegedly snatched the axe from the drunken man and attacked him with it. Police said they intend to arrest the victim when he is released from hospital, noting that he “was wrong first”.

Wife in custody over death of husband
A 48-year-old man died after his wife allegedly beat him to death with a wooden implement in Kampong Cham province’s Memot district on Monday. Police said the man was a violent alcoholic who had been abusive toward his wife and children on a daily basis. The woman eventually retaliated on Monday after her husband kicked her out of bed, police said. The suspect has been arrested and sent to the provincial court.

Drunken row ends in arrest for murder
Police are searching for a 33-year-old man accused of shooting his drinking partner dead in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district on Tuesday. Police said a verbal argument between the two men had turned physical before the suspect drew out a gun and shot the victim, who was taken to hospital but died upon arrival.

Spouse leaves wife, 5 children after suicide
A 39-year-old man hanged himself at his home in Pursat province’s Bakan district on Monday, leaving behind a wife and five children. The man’s widow said her husband had been mentally ill and had been convinced his family was poor and that he had a disease.

Teenage girl complains of sexual assault
A 23-year-old man was arrested in Banteay Meanchey province’s Sisophon district on Monday after a 17-year-old girl filed a complaint to police accusing him of forcing her to have sex with him. The suspect said he and the girl had been dating for two years prior to the incident.
