Friday, 18 February 2011 15:01 May Titthara

A verdict in the case of two villagers from Siem Reap’s Chi Kraeng commune who stood trial last year in Siem Reap provincial court on charges of robbery and causing injury is to be announced on March 3, the Appeal Court said yesterday. The case stems from a March 22, 2009 altercation related to an ongoing land dispute between residents of Chi Kraeng and Anlong Samnor communes, during which police officers fired on a group of protesting residents from both communes. Seven other residents charged in the incident were not summoned to appear yesterday in court.

Some 260 provincial, district and commune officials gathered this week at Preah Sihanouk provincial hall to declare their assets in line with a new graft policy enacted by the Anti-Corruption Unit in November. Kim Sokhorn, provincial deputy governor, said officials met to complete a 16-page, seven-point declaration form for submission to the ACU. “The officials who have to declare their assets are provincial district and commune governors and counsellors,” he said, adding that the forms were to be submitted to the ACU next week.
